Instructions For Authors
Site Philosophy
Grand Rounds is intended to be a forum for the
publishing of case reports that offer new information to the medical
community as a whole. There are no subscription costs so anybody
is free to benefit from the information presented herein. Therefore,
in order to cover production costs, authors are asked to contribute
€137 euro, £95 sterling or $164 USD. There is a facility
to pay by credit card in any one of these currencies via a secure
server (the sterling price is definitive, so the € and $
price may vary), please see the link below and at the bottom of
the page.
Payment is only requested if a case report
is accepted for publication (i.e. if an article is not accepted
for whatever reason then there will be no charge) and students
are entitled to a very substantial discount. To

General points
Articles should contain up to1500 words, four
figures, and five references: this is a guideline only.
Articles must be submitted as an email attachment
in a standard word processing package; graphics should be in either
GIF or JPG format as appropriate. See the submissions
section further down this page for instructions about actually
submitting an article.
The articles must be structured in the following
format:
Title.
Full list of authors with affiliations.
Corresponding author's email, postall address and telphone/fax
numbers.
List of key words and relevant
medical specialities.
Abstract of up to 50 words summarising
the report and its point.
Clinical or other case history.
Diagnosis.
Clinical evidence and unusual
features.
Lesson or point.
For help with writing a case report please refer to the recent article in the BMJ which gives advice on this subject. You can find this article here.
References
These must include reference to the current
clinical evidence. These must be numbered consecutively in the
order in which they are mentioned. The abbreviations used for
the periodicals cited in the references should follow the style
of Index Medicus.
For the journal articles list surnames and initials
of all authors when there are six or less. For example,
Harries
SR, Fox BM, Williams MP. Nephrostomy failure due to Tumour Lysis
Syndrome. Clin Radiol 2000; 55: 152
For online articles the volume, issue, and page
number is replaced by the Digital Object Identifier (DOI), which
is usually at the top of the article. Therefore, the same example
as above would be formatted as
Harries
SR, Fox BM, Williams MP. Nephrostomy failure due to Tumour Lysis
Syndrome. Clin Radiol doi:10.1053/crad.1999.0071
Alternatively, both references may be given:
Harries
SR, Fox BM, Williams MP. Nephrostomy failure due to Tumour Lysis
syndrome. Clin Radiol 2000; 55: 152, doi: 10.1053/crad.1999.0071
Units and Abbreviations
Radiation measurements and laboratory values
should be given in the International System of Units (SI).
Ethical Considerations
The consent of the patient(s) should be obtained.
All information that would permit identification of the patient
should be removed. The consent form should be signed by the patient
and either scanned in and sent with the manuscript as an email
enclosure or separately by fax.

here to download the patient consent form
Financial Interest
Authors must declare any direct or indirect
financial interest they have in the subject matter of the submitted
manuscript.
Referees
The author may submit names and email addresses
of experts in the field of the report as referees.
Copyright
All authors are asked to sign a form stating
that the manuscript has not been submitted to or published by
another journal and that they are able to assign copyright to
e-MED.
